"I know that a lot of people are saying 'God Bless America,' but with shopping like this I say 'God bless England!"

Thanks to Kristen for that quote.
The 4th of July in England was slightly sad, but we went to the Tower and the Beefeater told us that all of this history could have been ours if we'd just paid our taxes on time. :) Classic.
It wasn't too crazy of a day - after going to the Tower and chillin' with the Ravens we were going to do one of our walks, but halfway around I decided that I didn't have a lot of time before kitchen duty and also I was exhausted and wanted a nap, and everyone seemed relieved to have a reason to go home.
Dinner was a highlight. Dave (the resident director) made hamburgers, chips, and pasta salad so that we could feel like it was Independence Day after all, and we had this amazing dessert with strawberries and blueberries and cream (red, white, blue) and the whole thing was pretty great.
Kitchen duty took a little longer than expected, so Mallory and my attempt to go to the Globe was foiled by just a few minutes, but instead we went to the Tate Modern, so the night wasn't a total waste. We wandered around with the Picassos and Magrittes for awhile and it was sufficiently stimulating and disturbing. The best part was this crazy film called The Meshes of the Afternoon or something like that. Incredibly bizarre, but kind of fun.
I spent the rest of the evening talking to people on the stairs in a really obnoxious way (we were right in the way) and laughing at things that were probably not that funny. It was a good time. I like the people here.
Hopefully I'm off to Portobello Road today, and we're going to have a magical dining experience tonight. Details to follow.
Here's a clip of the crazy avant-garde film:

Dave and Terri are the new resident directors. I guess Tony and Tina got sick of it. :) I like Dave (haven't met Terri yet - she's not here right now) but I do miss the British food and their stories.

I remember that on the fourth of July last, I celebrated my independence by packing and on the fifth I flew back to the mother country. *sigh* I never made it to the Tate Modern, but I loved the Tate Britain. I am a sucker for the Pre-Raphaelites. Of course nothing really compares with The Globe.

okay...what's with all the new layouts? i don't know what to do with myself! i just resigned myself to the fact that i like my layout and it's not boring, but now i have layout envy. boo.

also - i like the blinking avant garde eye. nothing like an extreme close up to unerve you.

some saturday mornings i wake up and think "i want to go shopping today....in Covent Garden/Portabello Road." and then i get sad when i realize they are far away and the closest shopping i have is walmart. ho hum.

on a good note - i roasted hot dogs and smores and played with a bubble machine and went swimming on the fourth and felt oh so patriotic doing so. yay.
