Today was GLORIOUS. And I must tell all.
First, we had a guest lecturer in Poli Sci today - fascinating discussion of Milton that made me want to actually try to understand Milton, because frankly, he's kind of awesome.
After class, we decided to at last make the trek out to Wimbledon. The line was short early in the day, and we walked right in on a grounds pass. We went and saw one junior match (court 14) and were having a grand old time.
After about a set of the juniors, we decided to go and queue up for resale tickets, despite the fact that we had been told to wait until 5:00 and it was just after 3. The queue wasn't too long, but an attractive tennisy man told us that it probably wouldn't move much for about 2.5 hours. We ignored him, and it's a good thing we did, because pretty soon it started to rain and people started to leave. But by the time we got the front of the line and bought tickets, it was sunny again! And we bought tickets to Centre Court. And Serena Williams was playing.
So we ran down to Centre Court and saw most of Serena's second set, and then it started to rain again. We had about a 40 minute rain delay (during which the announcer periodically came and said, "Do not despair. The rain should continue for about 20 minutes more before a longer period of clear skies."), and the the sun came out and it was beautiful sunburn weather again, and we finished out the match with Serena in the lead. Hurrah! Not only that, during the third set (tiebreaker?) I was sitting just a little ways from the Williams family. I could hear them!
Side note: while I was wandering around during the rain delay, I'm pretty sure I ran into Ian McKellan. I mean, he seriously looked and sounded just like him - I can only think that it was him.
Anyway, it was basically awesome. I can't even get over it. Here are more pictures.

Wow, I can't believe you ran into Ian McKellan! I adore the man. When we went to the Open Air Theatre for some such anniversary, Judy Dench was supposed to be there. But alas, she was not. However an earl or duke was there, and everyone was dressed in vintage 30s clothing, and there was free champagne. It was divine. And how awesome is it that you went to Wimbledon?!?
